Privacy issues
The Privacy Act 1988 sets out the ways in which your energy and water suppliers may collect, use and give out personal information such as your name, address or account number. The Privacy Act also allows you to access your personal information kept by suppliers and to correct any errors.
You can contact your supplier for a copy of their privacy policy. Most suppliers have their privacy policy on their website. These policies set out the ways in which each supplier handles and protects your personal information.
The Energy and Water Ombudsman SA is recognised as an external dispute resolution scheme (“EDR”) to handle privacy related complaints under the Privacy Act 1988. If you would like to make a complaint against a supplier about privacy related matters, debt collection or credit default listing, please contact your supplier in the first instance. If you have not resolved your issue after contacting your supplier, please lodge a complaint online by clicking here, or freecall 1800 665 565 between 8.30 am and 5.00 pm, Monday to Friday.
